Duplicity (2009)

|

Supposed to be a thriller but somehow it made me fall asleep. The only thing that was interesting was Paul Giamatti and Tom Wiklinson’s characters fighting. Bloody hell, even the supposed “twist” at the end was cliche. Skip it.

Ex-CIA officer Claire Stenwick (JULIA ROBERTS) and former MI6 agent Ray Koval (CLIVE OWEN) are spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair in the caper Duplicity, from writer/director Tony Gilroy.

The King of Kong (2007)

This Documentary is a simple story of an average Joe trying to beat a biased system and the reigning king. My heart goes out to Steve Wiebe, he is a true inspiration. Can’t believe that Guinness actually chose Twin Galaxies to be the official record verifier with all the inconsistencies in their system. Watch it!

Passengers (2008)

Ok, I knew this movie is going to suck, but because I respect Anne Hathaway and thought that any movie with Annie cannot be that bad, I decided to give it a chance. Yup, the ratings speak the truth, it absolutely suck balls. How in the world does the director spent 25 million and still churn out a B-looking movie. The bloody twist is an exact copy of “The Sixth Sense”. Trust the ratings, don’t watch it.

Cypher (2002)

Wow. Simply wow. The entire film looked amazing. Excellent cinematography and photography. The plot is amazing too. There are so many ploys that you won’t know who is telling the truth or just skillful manipulation. Definitely must watch.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009)

Not as funny as expected. Not much point to it. Run away from it.

Dorian Gray (2009)

|

The dialogue is extraordinary, what do you expect from Oscar Wilde. The language dances around like a medley of swords. The thing that I have a problem with was that in some scenes there were several abrupt jump cuts which ceased the movie’s flow. Regardless, watch it!

Orphan (2009)

Remarkable! Very gripping and and the twist is very original. Got to love Isabelle Fuhrman and Aryana Engineer. The latter’s character was one of the strongest child characters I’ve ever seen on screen. Didn’t like the director’s unnecessary “murderer” POVs; after a while it became tedious to endure through all that unnecessary tension buildup. Watch it.

Case 39 (2009)

My “Session 9” dreams come true! Everything that is scary in that was realized in here. It’s almost a perfect combination of “Session 9” and “Orphan”. Plot is kind of cliché but it is well executed. Got to watch it!!!

Couples Retreat (2009)

Somehow the trailer is way funnier, definitely an indication of subpar direction. The cast carried this movie through. Jean Reno, Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau… the casting director deserves a bonus. Watch it if you want.

The Six Wives of Henry Lefay (2009)

Wasn’t much point to the movie. Has some funny parts, but in the end nothing happens. Jenna Elfman’s character was the only entertaining part. Skip it.

The Rebound (2009)

|

MILF! Awesome line… The scene with the chiropractor who goes to the bathroom and puts his hands on Catherine Zeta-Jones’ face was especially funny. But in the subsequent scene where he puts his fingers in her mouth and stretches her face was uncalled for. Does the director knows how to portray a Hollywood veteran like Catherine? The kids are awesome too; best portrayal of the next generation I’ve ever seen. I got to say… the ending was very meh. Watch it.

A Serious Man (2009)

|

It builds and builds till the tension in the last scene was so sweet, I was clenching my teeth, almost bit my tongue off. The thing about a comedy from the Coen brothers is that, you need to be really intelligent to get the jokes. That’s why they make the most memorable films. Must watch!

Splinter (2008)

Not bad. Nice tension. Pretty decent story. Amazing creature; very refreshing. Could use a sound director though; in the last scene, the gun shots sound like a hammer hitting a sandbag instead of a proper gunshot. Watch it.

Immortel (ad vitam) (2004)

Good story, but the plot does not properly develop over the course of the movie. The lighting is horrible; almost went blind watching it. When it comes to cyberpunk… Japanese stuff is way better. Hot actress though. Watch Linda Hardy.
