Meh. This is supposed to be a romantic comedy right? But… I don’t notice any significant comedic segments or head-over-heels romance. Meh. One thing that really grinds my gears is that Malin Akerman is not hotter than Katherine Heigl; why the hell does the film, or more accurately, the casting director tries to infer that? Don’t watch.
He’s Just Not That Into You (2009)
Labels: Ken Kwapis | author: YaoA stellar cast but the plot is like a dying fish flip flopping around. The characters have little or no depth and everything seemed forced. They tried very hard to copy “Love Actually”, but failed miserably. Don’t watch it unless you want to catch a glimpse of Scarlett Johansson’s breasts bouncing in almost all her scenes.
Let It Be (1970)
Labels: Michael Lindsay-Hogg | author: AlephThis documentary should hold a special place in the hearts of Beatles fans. The most lovable band of all time is filmed during their jamming sessions and rehearsals for what was to be their last album, “Let it Be,” and their last performance on the Apple studios rooftop. Although most of the conflict that occurred between the four lads (eventually leading to the break-up) is absent due to certain footages being controversial, this documentary shows that they were all about the music. Most of the documentary is just the four of them doing what they loved most, making music.
Avatar (2009)
Labels: James Cameron | author: YaoIf you love CGI, this is the movie for you. I watched it in 3D and it looks amazing. One point of contention though, I feel that the 3D distract the audience from the movie itself. It is as though James Cameron took an average script and covered it up with glitz and glamour and sold it as a blockbuster. Watch it for the effects.
Nine Miles Down (2009)
Labels: Anthony Waller | author: YaoVery cerebral. Kind of reminds me of “The Shining”, but with a way more hotter main character play by Kate Nauta. The plot, although average, had me guessing till the very end. Watch it.
An Education (2009)
Labels: Lone Scherfi | author: AlephSet in 1960s England, Jenny is seduced by luxury and economic freedom. This tempts even the devil himself, for the devil is the admiration for longing, and seeing that longing beautify itself as it comes true only corrupts initial goals set by the individual; which is Amy. Admiration and longing is her motivation to do well in school. This movie gives these two eternal cinematic themes and makes them pure. An Education is learned, and it is more than worth it.
Julia & Julia (2009)
Labels: Nora Ephron | author: YaoNever had a movie made me so hungry. Oh… the food, the gorgeous food. Didn’t really like the plot that much; very bland for my taste. And whoever did Amy Adams’ hair ought to be shot. Plus, even though Meryl Streep did a respectable job portraying Julia Childs, her falsetto voice got annoying after a while. Watchable.
Messages Deleted (2009)
Labels: Rob Cowen | author: YaoAn above average thriller. The plot is kind of predictable though and the ending is outright textbook Hollywood “twist”. Always good to see Matthew Lillard in action. He have this awesome cinematic voice. Watch it if you want.
Hackers (1995)
Labels: Iain Softley | author: YaoA definite cult classic. If you are any way connected to computers, you need to watch this. OK, had to admit, some of the computer systems in the movie are not really accurate, but it makes for a exciting movie. Plus, it’s a snapshot of the pop culture of the 90’s. Watch it!!!
Taking Woodstock (2009)
Labels: Ang Lee | author: YaoAn average movie with a terrific cast. Paul Dano as a hippie on acid, sweet. Especially loved the performances of Imelda Staunton and Liev Schreiber, best portrayal of a transvestite ever!!! “OK, I maybe a grandfather but..” awesome line!!! Watch it for the cast!
All About Steve (2009)
Labels: Phil Traill | author: YaoUsually, Sandra Bullock’s characters are compelling and have tons of personality. But in this movie, her character is being unconventional just for the sake of it. I miss her old movies like “Two Weeks Notice” and “Miss Congeniality”. Don’t watch it.
