In 2002, the Academy Awards nominated Sir Ben Kingsley an Oscar for best supporting actor in this film. He lost. It's not important to know who won the award that year because many claim that Kingsley's ferocious performance was unforgettable. He is not the scrawny Indian icon he's mostly remembered for, but the complete antithesis; a bad ass. Kingsley resembles that of a dog; particularly a large-full-grown Doberman. He attains manipulation, darkness, fear, and aggression in his portrayal as the cockney-jabbering-Machiavellian Don, which is all too powerful. There is a reason why Ben Kingsley was knighted, perhaps this film will give you a clue...
